Paint like the Women of Abstract Expressionism

  • ArtsClub DC 1621 Connecticut Avenue Northwest, 3rd Floor Washington, District of Columbia, 20009 United States (map)

“I’m an artist not a woman artist.”

— Lee Krasner

Learn about the female painters who led the Abstract Expressionist movement.

Abstract Expressionism was greatly boosted by the artwork of numerous female painters, who defied institutionalized sexism to create monumental paintings in male-dominated spaces. These artists include Helen Frankenthaler, Lee Krasner, Elaine de Kooning and Joan Mitchell, all of whom helped to elevate Ab-Ex to the globally recognized art movement it is today.

Get inspired by these icons of 20th century art, and learn how to create your own paintings which mirror their rule-breaking aesthetics.

This is a beginner-friendly workshop taught by PhDs, subject matter experts and professional artists. All art supplies are included.
