ArtsClub’s Studio Sessions combine art history with art-making in the studio. To make the most of ArtsClub’s Pride Series, we recommend visiting these DC exhibitions, where you can see paintings by our featured artists and gain inspiration for your own painting:
National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA): Visit the NMWA to view Self-Portrait Dedicated to Leon Trotsky (c. 1937). This bold and provocative work captures Frida Kahlo’s revolutionary spirit and complex relationship to love. Created during her affair with the exiled Russian leader Leon Trotsky, the painting reflects both personal intimacy and political allegiance, offering a glimpse into Kahlo’s engagement with communism as well as her deeply symbolic approach to self-portraiture.
National Gallery of Art: Head to the National Gallery’s East Building to view two seminal 1962 works by Andy Warhol; Green Marilyn and A Boy for Meg.
